"My father's great uncle, Syver Evenson, aka Samuel Evenson, enlisted in
the 8th Reg. Missouri Infantry, from Houston County, Minnesota, with several
other young men from the area. Can someone explain the recruitment
practice where recently arrived Norwegian immigrants would end up enlisting
for a Missouri Regiment? This has always baffled the family."
