JOHN WINKLER
b. Dec. 25, 1839
d. Aug. 12 1929
Co. E, 8th Missouri Volunteer Infantry
 
John Winkler, of Perry County Missouri. John, born in 1839, son of Joseph and Rosina Winkler, enlisted in the Union Army, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on August 8th, 1861.   He served in Company E, of the 8th Missouri Volunteer Infanfry.   On July 16th, 1864 he was discharged at Jefferson Barracks as being unable to perform the duties of a soldier resulting from an attack of small pox and dysentery.   He married Theresia Meyer in 1871 and they had 10 children.   John suffered all his life from the effects of his illness contracted during the Civil War.   John died in 1929.
