Sargeant William H. Cheever was born April 16, 1840, in Providence, Rhode Island.   He was living near Pekin, Illinois, when he volunteered for the 8th Missouri.   William H. William H. Cheever was present at the 1882 Logan County Civil War reunion.   This reunion was held in Illinois.


The following information comes from Clayton Cheever IV of Austin TX:
 
"My Great-Great-Grandfather William H. Cheever was buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery, Plot 29, 15 RB.   Prior to his death on 12/20/1915 he lived in the National Veteran Homes in Leavenworth, Kansas, and Sawtelle, California."
